GOV. CANDIDATE BRIAN FLEMMING PREPARES RESIGNATION LETTER LOS ANGELES, August 5, 2003 -- As his campaign soars in popularity--with a surge of media coverage, 100% increases in website traffic every two days and the formation of Flemming for Governor support organizations statewide--Democratic candidate for governor Brian Flemming has prepared his letter of resignation, which he will sign moments after he is sworn in as California's governor. "This is the letter that puts Cruz Bustamante in the governor's office," said Flemming. "My signature on it will effectively defeat the right-wing assault on our democracy, and put in office the person California voters already decided in a general election should succeed Gray Davis." The letter of resignation can be viewed at www.flemmingforgovernor.org. With recent coverage of Flemming for Governor in California news media (Los Angeles Times, Fresno Bee, Long Beach Press-Telegram, KFI-AM to name just a few) as well as national publications (Baltimore Sun, New York Newsday), the campaign has been inundated with calls and emails of support. "My platform is ideal for the conditions under which every candidate will be battling in the short run-up to this election," said Flemming, a nationally renowned playwright. "The platform's single, clear idea cuts through all of the clutter, and it spreads like wildfire among those who are angry about this right-wing assault on our democracy. Those voters may or may not represent over 50% in the Oct. 7 recall vote--but they almost certainly represent enough votes to elect a candidate on the second part of that ballot. And right now they have no serious backup plan besides myself. "I will put the most qualified state politician in California, Cruz Bustamante, into the governor's office, and once voters realize this fact, I have little doubt that a significant percentage of the electorate will vote for the stability and common sense my campaign represents. While my campaign message at first attracts angry voters--and there are plenty of those--it also has the benefit of being the very best plan for the state of California. Absolutely no candidate running can do as much good for this state as I can do." With Orange County for Flemming and College Students for Flemming spontaneously popping up on August 4--and more support organizations on the way--the Flemming campaign is well on its way to an October 7 victory. Flemming plans to rely on the simplicity and emotional appeal of his platform to race ahead of other candidates burdened with selling an entire slate of positions on the issues. "Cruz Bustamante has already been elected by California to succeed Gray Davis," said Flemming. "My job is 99% done. I plan to work very hard on the remaining 1%."
