DEMOCRATS AGAINST BERMAN
The Man Who Wants To Destroy Your Computer Representative Howard Berman (D-Van Nuys, CA) has been a sponsor of two pieces of heinous legislation that attempt to seriously undermine our Constitutional rights. This man must be stopped. Piracy Deterrence and Education Act of 2003 (H.R. 2517) would enlist the FBI and the Department of Justice in an effort to "develop a program to deter members of the public from committing acts of copyright infringement." This is a dangerous use of the criminal justice system to handle a civil matter. Peer to Peer Piracy Prevention Act (H.R. 5211) would allow owners of copyrighted material to hack into and damage your computer if they suspected you of possessing unauthorized copyrighted files. This is not an exaggeration. Berman, doing the bidding of his Big Media campaign contributors, wants to give his clients the right to commit a felony--to release computer viruses that can destroy your computer's operating system. If you or I did this, we'd go to jail. But this proposed law would specifically shield Berman's campaign contributors from liability if they do it. Your computer could be invaded and destroyed--without due process, by a corporate entity, in the name of copyright protection. These measures are INSANE. They would give Hollywood and the big media companies unprecedented powers over citizens. All Democrats should be ashamed that Howard Berman is among us. Democrats Against Berman has launched a grass-roots effort to oust Howard Berman from the Congress. We will expose his anti-freedom views to his constituents in the San Fernando Valley and show him for what he is--a thug hired by the big media companies to trample on our rights in service of their extreme agenda. recipient list, with $68,000 from Motion Picture Association of America
members' PACs over four years. Berman, whose district includes North
Hollywood, was a strong supporter of the contentious Digital Millenium
Copyright Act and was the top Democrat on the House subcommittee on
Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property when it passed.
We must get rid of Howard Berman. If this results in a Republican taking office--so be it. As hard as it is for us to say, Howard Berman is even more dangerous than a Republican.
