Business Plan

maxoscarpark2.jpg

Last night after catching up on the most recent episode of Entourage, I put in the DVD for the first four episodes of the first season. Somewhere in one of these first four, Ari was explaining to Vincent why Eric should develop his management skills. "E" told Ari why he didn't care about making more money when Vin was already paying him $4000 a month, cash. Ari replied, "$4000 a month! I pay that much to my dog walker!"

I had to rewind that one. Ari speaks really fucking fast. Shit. I've got the wrong clients.

Which makes me think about the fight I was overhearing this morning in the dog park. One dog walker was telling another that so-and-so was talking about her behind her back and that she should be thankful he was telling her all this. She was responding defensively, she doesn't try to steal clients, she doesn't need any new clients...!

Hmm. I could use one more. One named Ari Gold.

overheard at moca on this thursday night

noholot.jpg

Viewing the last of the combines in the Robert Rauschenberg exhibit...
a young woman, maybe twenty-years-old give or take, leaning into her companion who was either her mother or grandmother,
"do you really think Rauschenberg wanted his stuff to be hanging in a sterile museum viewed by a bunch of boring people, I mean, c'mon."
As they walked on, I turned towards them and thought outloud, uh, I'm not boring...

But more importantly, yes, of course he wanted his work to hang in a museum! I can think of many simple and complex answers to that whole open-ended question, but in one example the artist himself loaned one of the pieces to the show, so I guess - anyway...

David James said, when I told him of the overheard comment, "that's like asking 'do you really think Martin Scorcese wanted his films to play in a multi-plex?'"
Yes - cut up on basic cable? Probably not.

I Love The 60's

I want to thank Jonesy for putting Puff The Magic Dragon in my head for a full afternoon. Not to mention that it made me laugh when listening to it - I don't think I'd heard that song since before I knew what it was really about - or what it is allegedly about. I picture my parents wiping their foreheads as I sang along in the car...yes, Nora, what a cute song about a fantastical dragon. A song for five year-olds AND thirty-five year-olds. Genius. It's like Barney if he was a folk song. And you can't tell me it didn't take a little Puff to come up with Barney. Or Big Bird for that matter - oh, I've heard stories about Big Bird...

Chicken Soup For Unsaved Souls

Last night's sit 'n spin had me crying. First of all I see Jimmy driving up chauffering Bill Maher and his latest girlfriend Flo in the back seat. Jimmy said it was his idea but something tells me when it wastime for "Home, James", Hustle & Flo went for the back seat again... I love Bill.

images.jpg

We had front row seats this time at the Comedy Central Stage, all the better to be right in front of Rick Overton when he came out on stage with a mac book and did his piece called "my new blog". His satire on the blogosphere had me rolling so much I couldn't wait to come home and shut this shit down for good and be rid of the blah blah - but not until I blogged about it...

ronz1.JPG

I thought Rick had me in tears but then Ron Zimmerman closed the show and he proceeded to relieve me of all my mascara and give my abs a good workout. Seriuosly I haven't laughed that hard in I don't know how long. Only Ron - and maybe a couple of guys from the same clan, you know who you are - could be that fucked up (in a good, sick way) and that funny at the same time. Maybe snorting valerian root really has its creative advantages!

And maybe it would've come in handy as we turned onto Highland Ave just after the Hollywood Bowl let out. The longest, slowest quarter mile in the world at 11:30 PM.

I couldn't even begin to explain the rest of the party...though I could start with the snortings of valerian root, Bill Maher and his date, the medical marijuana and the fact that if the internet and myspace had existed 22 years ago, I certainly wouldn't still know these people.
