The hero pattern
Dang. I wish the Star Wars movies were better, because if they were I'd watch them all back to back to check out the Science Pundit's thesis that Darth Vader is almost as heroic as Jesus. (And Luke doesn't even...

States
When people speak of their mystical religious experiences, I am often struck by how similar those experiences sound to descriptions of other, more worldly ones. For example, an advocate of meditation will describe how the process helps him achieve peacefulness,...

Get over it
If I read one more article in which someone whines about getting death threats, I swear I'm going to kill somebody. You pussies. Try making a movie advancing the argument that Jesus Christ didn't exist. See what kind of email...

Partial victory for the Scared Sixteen
A while back, I wrote about a group of sixteen extremely insecure film directors who were getting all trembly at the idea that someone might make available alternate versions of their movies. Example: The "Phantom Edit" that stripped Jar Jar...

Iraq's normal state
Good thing that the Bush Administration had a well thought-out plan for dealing with the natural conditions in Iraq that created Saddam Hussein: Shiite militiamen rampaged through a Baghdad neighborhood Sunday morning, killing more than 50 people and leaving many...

Failure

Day 4: the day it stopped being fun
Hanging in there. It's been a shock to my system to switch to a diet of vegetables only. Since mid-day yesterday, I've been light-headed all the time, even after I eat. I've lost a little over four pounds since Tuesday...
