Santa, bone boxes, polygamy, teh gay...

Misc. links...

--Sometimes a person tries to be serious, but what he says ends up being unintentionally funny. And sometimes a person tries to be funny, but ends up being funny in a totally different way.

--They've been finding Jesus bone boxes for hundreds of years. I don't expect this one the be the last. I would expect people to suspect at some point, however, that the reason so many wildly different interpretations of the Jesus biography are possible is that the man didn't exist at all. Who was Jesus? Whoever you want him to be. Go find a bone box and make something up. Your story is guaranteed not to contradict the contemporary historical record of Jesus -- because there is no such record. (Hat tip: Zane.)

UPDATE: Thanks to reader Paul for sending this Telegraph story.

--If Mitt Romney is going to open up new territory in discussing religion and politics, the discussion shouldn't be about this. It should be the discussion Atrios has been writing about. I am sensing the need for a stunt here to provoke the media into framing the discussion the right way, but I can't figure out what that stunt would be*.

--Last refuge of the fundie: Got no argument at all against gay marriage? No problem. Just mention gays in the same context as pedophiles and cannibals, and when criticized cry out, "Stop oppressing my opinion!" Because opinions have feelings, too. It's painful to read, but further evidence that exposing the actual beliefs of fundagelicals can be useful. Don't let them sit silently and be thought foolish. Make them open their mouths and confirm it.

*After this 2004 joke got some attention on political blogs, the DNC actually made and distributed "Bush Goggles" to the media at the next Kerry-Bush debate. Could a Mitt Romney event be used in a similar way?
