The disease

Bill Maher:

Yes, liquor releases demons, but I want to know why the demon in Mel Gibson is hatred of the Jews to begin with (I know, the father). Why, when Mel's id is released, it's about the Jews fucking everything up, just like it was with Hitler. Except Mel Gibson, when his id is in check, I believe, really knows how wrong that is, and how stupid. He, I believe, at least fights with himself about this.

But he'll never win as long as he's so religious, because, I hate to tell you, the disease isn't alcoholism, the disease is religion.

Atheism is no guarantee of sanity, but there is a much stronger correlation between atheism and sanity than religion and sanity. Once your intellectual standards have fallen low enough to see one thing that isn't really there (God), it's just a short hop to the grassy knoll.

If one is going to believe that a man died, stayed dead three days, rose from the dead, flew into the air above the clouds and is right now with you as your invisible companion, well, why not believe the Jews started all of the wars in the world?

Does the first belief have better evidence than the second?

Once one accepts the Holy Bible as literal truth, in fact, it becomes natural to focus on Jews when trying to figure out world politics. After all, the Bible, including the New Testament, is all about the Jews. God is focused on the Jews, his chosen people, almost to the exclusion of everyone else on the planet. When God does turn his attention to other groups, he often has genocide in mind. The story of the Bible is the story of the Jews, led by a Jewish Messiah, taking over the world.

Christianity: gateway drug to anti-Semitism.

(Former atheist leader Larry Darby is just the exception that proves the rule. Upon revealing his thoughts on a "Judeo-Marxist" conspiracy, he was rejected by atheists the world over, and is now a Christian.)
