--Commentary by Ann Doneen and Ken Swope in the Glendale News Press:

Gale Caswell has been a Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year. She is one of our district's finest. She cares as much or more about our students than any other teacher in the school. She is a La Cañada resident, a highly respected professional, thoroughly competent, a teacher who loves our children, loves literature and would never do anything to hurt them.

We are, after all, a community of educated people. We are not into witch trials. We are not into book burning. Our students are mature enough and sophisticated enough to handle this material.

The perfect irony is that a few members of our own PTA want to do the same thing to this musical that the people of Hope Falls did to Bat Boy. In that sense, the message of "Bat Boy, the Musical" is even more strongly delivered to our community without even taking the stage.

This community loves Gale Caswell.
