A different kind of bat boy

There have been times when I have regretted the title of Bat Boy: The Musical. People unfamiliar with the Weekly World News and Bat Boy (turns out there are a lot of these people) tend to assume that the play is about baseball or the son of Batman. That confusion creates an extra obstacle for a theater company trying to promote their production.

Still, is there any excuse for this listing today in Toronto's National Post?

THEATRE

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL

Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming's musical about a baseball star who comes out in the middle of his career. Opens tonight and runs to April 16. Monday to Saturday 8 p.m., Saturday matinee 2 p.m. $25-$55. Bathurst Street Theatre, 736 Bathurst St. At Ticketmaster, 416-872-5555. www.ticketmaster.ca.

The editor has obviously mistaken Bat Boy for Take Me Out, a Broadway play about men who stand on stage naked and are also baseball players and one of them is gay.

Perhaps this listing error will give the Toronto production more appeal to the gay audience. But to guard against disappointment, I'd recommend the cast show their penises a bit more than usual.
