In our midst

Have you gone to The Beast discussion forums recently? They've remained pretty active since the launch. I try not to post there too much, so as not to get sucked into a time sink and forget to make the movie.

But some of the posts are interesting insights into how some of our fellow citizens think and feel. Such as this one from "Christian Soldier":

No child of GOD should be scared of this movie. It will come and go but GOD's Word is established forever in the heavens. The lot that will swallow its claims will eventually come around. I mean, everyone will be converted in the end...Every knee will bow and every tounge will confess. Let them all imagine their vain things. It is not our time to fight. Remember Jesus said to Pilate:

John 18:36 - Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

They imagine a fundamentalist Christian actually fighting like Dark Age Roman Catholic's. The Pope is in the wrong Bible dispensation. We are not here to spread a physical kingdom NOW. Notice the last part of what Jesus said. The only kingdom now is the spiritual Kingdom of God. YET, as KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS, Jesus will return with 10,000 of his saints...then the fighting starts! Coming soon to a city near you!

This is a (presumably) un-institutionalized person actually walking around among us. He or she believes something that is utterly insane.

I know this kind of lunacy is common, but sometimes I take a step back and look at it and it's just astonishing.

And this is the lunacy that the more rational among us are not only supposed to tolerate but also to respect and try to understand. Anything else is "contempt." We're supposed to be "reaching out" to these people, because they won the election for Bush.

But how do you reach out to a crazy person without becoming crazy yourself?
