I had a hunch this movie was tapping into a vein, and the response so far confirms it. The mythicist view of Jesus has long deserved more public consideration (most people are unaware even of the existence of this perspective), and the mainstream media is typically too timid to tout it. We had no problem securing moderators and other volunteers early on, and now that the project has publicly launched, support is pouring in from major authors and others. My email inbox was jam-packed this morning. I've spent most of the day writing thank-you notes. Back when I wrote this entry, this kind of response is what I had in mind. It's not only the obligation of independent filmmakers to tell forbidden stories, I believe, but it's also to their great advantage. There's an audience out there that Hollywood refuses to try to reach, because corporate conglomerates are frightened of controversy. Mel Gibson exploited this fact to his movie's advantage. The Beast is going to do the same thing, I think. The early signs are very good.
