"The Beast" message board

I thought it would take longer than this, but after two days The Beast's message board is really hopping.

I had a hunch this movie was tapping into a vein, and the response so far confirms it. The mythicist view of Jesus has long deserved more public consideration (most people are unaware even of the existence of this perspective), and the mainstream media is typically too timid to tout it.

We had no problem securing moderators and other volunteers early on, and now that the project has publicly launched, support is pouring in from major authors and others. My email inbox was jam-packed this morning. I've spent most of the day writing thank-you notes.

Back when I wrote this entry, this kind of response is what I had in mind. It's not only the obligation of independent filmmakers to tell forbidden stories, I believe, but it's also to their great advantage. There's an audience out there that Hollywood refuses to try to reach, because corporate conglomerates are frightened of controversy. Mel Gibson exploited this fact to his movie's advantage.

The Beast is going to do the same thing, I think. The early signs are very good.

COMMENTS

You left out one fact, Brian. The indie filmmaker has to be good at what he/she does to get this kind of response.

Brian,

Love the title. However, I may have some suggestions for the script...

As one of the many who have helped make those particular boards hop, let me say I'm eagerly awaiting your film.

Here's a hilarious concidence/synchronicity/instance of blind, dumb luck:

Almost two weeks ago (two weeks ago tomorrow, in fact) I went to see a local performance of ... Bat Boy: The Musical. Saw it. Loved it. Bought the soundtrack. (No, foolin'.)

It's a small world after all.

(Hums "I'll Show You a Thing or Two" to self.)

Very excited about this movie, and I've already been over on the boards posting away!

Probably the main reason I am excited about this is the fact that you, the director, are an ex-fundamentalist. I too am an ex-fundie, in fact, the same sect as John Ashcroft, Assemblies of God.
Would love to hear more about your coming out of fundamentalism!

I am also a Christian school refugee and I've been out of fundamentalism for 20 years now. ;-)

Best of everything with this project,

"Saved!" vanished into obscurity. So will this film.

Jesus is the most influential life ever lived on this planet.
Historian Kenneth Scott Latourette said: "As the centuries pass, the evidence is accumulating that, measured by His effect on history, Jesus is the most influential life ever lived on this planet."

Ernest Renan said: "Jesus was the greatest religious genius that ever lived. His beauty is eternal, and his reign shall never end. Jesus is in every respect unique, and nothing can be compared with him. All history is incomprehensible without Jesus Christ
