Now if MT would release 3.0 that will include a neat way to avoid comment spam we'll be set. Until then Blacklist-mt does a fair job.

Susan apparently just tried to comment and got a "scripting error" of some kind. I got her comments via the auto-email function but they don't seem to have appeared on the blog.

If anyone else is having trouble, please let me know by email.

Oh. Scratch that. Susan apparently posted to the entry previous to this one. So she got error notices but successfully posted.

That script error may actually be unrelated to comments. The little javascript thingie that I put at the bottom of every page to show the refererrs is pretty unstable, and it's definitely on the fritz today.

I probably shouldn't be using it, but it's just so interesting to see where visitors come from, and SiteMeter only does so much in that regard (last 100 visitors to entire site at any given time).

The script error when clicking to comment is a pop-up box that says it's:

Line 627
Error: Object Expected

It takes an incredible amount of time for the little cartwheel thingy (same as the cursor/hourglass on Windows I suspect) to get back to being a cursor.

And it refuses to remember my personal Information. In this particular case, considering my luck with techno-stuff lately, that might be a personal problem, though. There's probably something in the Java Script expressly saying "Don't let Susan comment!"

Note: The rabbit ad is still not animated for me.

An interesting aside, lately, after being in BFW for a few minutes, I get pop-up cookies notifications for Buzznet and Amazon. (Pain in the ass, but I like to have the option of not accepting cookies.)

OK. I'm going to click on the Post button now.....

After re-entering my personal information and clicking on the Post button, I got JScript Runtime Errors of "Object Expected" on lines 32 and 648.

Hmm, sounds like it could be the referrers JavaScript at the bottom of the page. I'm not an expert, so I don't know for sure.

But now that referrers script is running okay. Try again and report?

When did that cookies behavior start? I just searched the templates and couldn't find anything Buzznet-related. And I don't know why an Amazon ad would ask for cookies. That's weird.

As far as the rabbit ad goes, that's like a a browser setting. If you go to Explorer>Preferences, among all that clutter you'll find a setting for Animated GIFs.

Or you could switch to Safari. That's what I use. With the PithHelmet plug-in, which makes all banner ads disappear. Makes the web a lot more pleasant.

I am still getting the Script Errors upon clicking on Comments. I did notice the other day when I was so prolific that, after posting a comment, the line number increased each time I returned to the same area. If I'm the first commenter, the line number is always the same.

Not only were my gifs already marked as animated, they should have been looping, too, apparently. Perhaps the rabbit passed on.

The cookies behavior started a week or two ago. Considering my techno-voodoo of late, it's probably me and not you.

I just went into my preferences and deleted a slew of cookies although I kept Amazon and Buzznet. I particularly deleted anything with the word "ads" in it. I'll see if it makes any difference and let you know.

One thing I do is make Explorer ask if I want to accept a cookie before it gets saved. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass (I always accept your SiteMeter!), but it keeps a lot of the ads from appearing in the first place. Hence, I have no earthly idea where those pop-up boxes asking me to accept cookies from Amazon and Buzznet are coming from.

Maybe I'll try going someplace other than BFW first and "hang around" a few minutes to see if it still happens. It'll be hard, though, because BFW is my browser default and I can't wait to see what has been posted.

The one thing I know FOR SURE isn't me, is that I can't get comments to remember my personal information.

Lastly, I confess that I haven't really tried Safari yet. I'll have to give that a try. (Oh dear. More learning curve.)

So I guess the answer is this: Explorer gives Script Errors and does something funky with animation. Neither Explorer nor Safari will remember me.
