But- but- I go to Harvard!

From a friend who works in the Harvard Health Services department:

[...]

I'm sure you've heard, but there is a nation-wide flu vaccine shortage, and for a while Harvard seemed to be the only place in Massachusetts not affected.† Of course, after the Boston Globe published this on the front page last week, the CDC put pressure on us to give our extra supplies to the Cambridge public health department.† We did, and now we only have enough vaccine to vaccinate high risk members of the Harvard population.† You would think that people would understand this.† We vaccinated more than 10,000 people and we held multiple clinics open to the entire population throughout October and November.† Now, in response to an unplanned shortage, we are giving the vaccine to the members of the population who need it the most.† Harvard students and faculty astound me with their sense of entitlement.† I've had several people ask me for a refund for their insurance, more than one person tell me how essential they are to the organization and how much their absence from work would effect Harvard if they were to get sick, and a couple of people even tell me to my face that they deserved to get the flu shot more than a six-month old baby.† If I get one more person storming out of the office saying that this is "ridiculous", "absurd", or "unfair" I will not be able to keep from telling them exactly what I think.
