Rush Limbaugh, football and racism

I know very little about Rush Limbaugh. A few years back, my clock-radio alarm was somehow set to a station where he broadcasted in the a.m., and I didn't bother to figure out how to change that setting. So every morning I would awake to his bellowing voice. I think I can safely say that I never heard the man speak a complete sentence, so quickly did I slap the clock radio. God, that voice was awful. But effective for its purpose. At the time, I had no idea that he was going deaf and was taking enough narcotics every day to kill a horse. I know there's a lot of theories about the drugs/deafness thing, as Vicodin abuse is known to cause hearing loss, so here's my own theory: Rush Limbaugh got himself hooked on Vicodin in order to go deaf on purpose, so he wouldn't have to hear his own voice.

I haven't worked out the details on that one yet, but it fits with my experience of his voice.

I know almost as little about football as I do about Mr. Limbaugh, so I can't gauge his accusation that those liberal sports writers (ahem) wanted a black quarterback to do well, and blah blah blah.

Finally, I don't know much about racism, compared with many others, having never been a victim of it, which, I think, is probably how one gets to know it best.

All of which is to say that I am one of the least qualified people on earth to write a post entitled "Rush Limbaugh, football and racism," so if you came here from a search engine expecting to find some useful information about these topics, know that you have become yet another victim in my ongoing campaign to fish people in.

Yes, I'm a horrible person. But these cruel pranks are what I do instead of getting hooked on Vicodin and bellowing into a microphone, so thank your lucky stars.

Actually, I will provide some useful info, just this once, in honor of the holiday: All of the above was prompted by Mac Diva, who wrote me today to tell me she has a post up at Silver Rights about the Limbaugh comments on race. And she links to further good stuff. Thanks for keeping an eye out, MD.
