Comments, comments, comments

To get comments working here again, apparently, I have to do a "fresh reinstall."

Reinstall what?

I don't know. Everything? I think so. I'm getting tech support by asking questions at the MT forum (here, here, and here), for which I am grateful, but the average response time is one day, so the conversation has gone like this:

ME: Comments aren't working. How do I get them working again?

ONE DAY LATER: Did you make a backup?

ME: Of what?

ONE DAY LATER: Of your databases.

ME: No, I don't think so.

ONE DAY LATER: Are you using MySQL or Berkeley?

ME: I don't know. How do I tell?

ONE DAY LATER: Look for [gibberish] in [gibberish] file. If it has [gibberish] written in it, it's MySQL.

ME: It's not in there.

ONE DAY LATER: You're using Berkeley, then. There's no way to run a repair operation on Berkeley.

ME: Okay, so what do I do?

ONE DAY LATER: A corrupted Berkeley database is generally fixable only by a fresh reinstall.

So now, apparently, I have to reinstall everything related to Movable Type. I think. Installing was a huge pain back when I did it in March for the first time. And I've forgotten everything about the process. It will be even harder this time, as I will have to try to preserve all of the old entries (which involves "exporting")...and, anyway, it will no doubt be a lot of trial and error.

And no way am I doing that right now. Too busy with Nothing So Strange. I'm able to seemingly have a lot of time to blog on some days only because I'm doing a lot of rendering of footage, which means a lot of waiting for 5 to 30 minutes at a time while Final Cut Pro does its thing. Blogging is perfect for passing that time while sitting watch at the computer, but I can't take on a big MT reinstall operation with that kind of schedule.

I might look into outside forum services, though. I miss the comments. If anyone out there knows anything about other commenting options, or knows about Movable Type and can tell me if there's maybe just a few files I can replace or something...let me know, and I will be your best friend.

And, anyway, I'm sorry to all for (maybe) losing all of the comments here. I should have been more careful with backups. It totally sucks that none of the entries have all the comments attached to them anymore, as the comments were often the most fun and interesting part.

(Come on, go ahead, buy it. What's $959.99 these days, anyway? You know you want to be an editor.)
