BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL TO ASSAULT NEW YORK CITY
!!!!!!!
We had to drag out our biggest
Drudge Report-style headline for this one, and we're not kidding. It's
finally happening. We can finally answer the question, When will Bat
Boy: The Musical be coming to New York?
Answer: In March 2001. At the Union Square Theater. This will be Bat Boy's off-Broadway
debut.
We can hardly believe it ourselves,
but producers Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Riot Entertainment and Robyn Goodman
have made it happen, bless their hearts.
And now we've actually got to put
together a show. A set to build. Actors to cast. Musical
scores to orchestrate. Blood to spill.
So excuse us as we prepare. More
details to come.
PREVIOUS NEWS:
Item! Florida!
Are you wondering how the country
ended up in its current electoral purgatory? Puzzled as to how two
presidential candidates could end up separated by a
percentage smaller than George W.'s average blood
alcohol content as a "youth"? Listen to the TV pundits
blather on, read the New York Times version or even put
your ear to the ground if you'd like--all of those
methods will get you something, if only a nasty tympanic
membrane infection.
But if you want the real deal, read
on. The story behind the historic ballot showdown of 2000 involves Bat
Boy, extraterrestrials and the only state in the Union
more backward than Texas.
FIRST: As we're sure you know, Bat
Boy endorsed Vice President Al Gore for president. When this news broke
in late October, pretty much everybody wrote off Texas
Gov. George W. Bush, for obvious reasons.
BUT THEN: In a startling
development, the Alien endorsed Bush. While Bat Boy's endorsement of
Gore was a historic first, the Alien was an old
three-fingered hand at this, and always on target--he endorsed Bill
Clinton in 1992 (after a brief flirtation with Ross
Perot, who is likely a relative), and Clinton again in
1996.
AND THUS: The country was plunged
into confusion. On the one hand, Bat Boy and Gore. On the other, the
Alien and Bush. What to do?
And that's how you end up with the
present situation.
THE KICKER: The Weekly World News,
responsible for breaking the endorsement news both about
Bat Boy and the Alien, is headquartered in guess which
state? That's right--Florida!
Wheels within wheels, my friend.
Wheels within wheels.

Did you know we won another one of
those $40,000 Richard Rodgers awards from the American Academy of Arts
and Letters? We used it to stage some more readings at the Director's
Company in New York City in July. They went swimmingly.
Here's an interesting West
Coast/East Coast comparison for you. At the 1997 production of BAT BOY:
THE MUSICAL in L.A., the biggest celebrity to attend was
Paul Stanley of KISS. At the recent staged readings in
New York, the biggest celebrity to attend was Stephen Sondheim. Draw
your own conclusions.
